TEACHING - UPRIGHT AND ELECTRIC BASS LESSONS
Music isn’t a “one size fits all” medium. There are infinite styles to play and myriad approaches to each style. I try to take that to heart with every teaching opportunity I get. My teaching philosophy is that no two students are the same and so no two students should be taught the same way. I try, with each individual student, to meet them where they are, to take their tastes, goals, and desires to heart.
At the core of my teaching will always be building sound technique. Bass, especially, upright bass, is a large instrument, and learning how to play it efficiently is the key to avoiding stress and injuries. From there, I try to discover what will unlock each student’s passion. Perhaps we learn the bass line to a song you’ve always loved, or I arrange some video game music for the bass. don’t believe sticking to the classical canon is the only way to develop a strong sense of musicianship. After all, learning music should be as fun as it is enriching.
Whether you’re an advanced player looking to polish an audition piece, or a complete beginner who has never held a bass, I’d love a chance to help you on your musical journey. I can teach both upright and electric bass, as well as music theory. On upright, I can teach both classical and jazz techniques. On Electric, I can teach whatever your heart desires to learn: funk, jazz, rock, playing with a pick, slap etc. I’m available for in-person lessons in the New York City area or remote lessons over video chat.
I’ve given workshops and master classes all over the world through my work with Ladama and I’m currently a New York Pops Teaching Artist working in the New York Public Schools. If you are interested in a lessons, please reach out through the form below!
